Product Description

Cica-Care gel sheet is a soft, self-adhesive, semi-occlusive sheet made from medical grade silicone reinforced with a silicone membrane backing.

Indications

Cica-Care is designed for temporary use:

1. In the management of both existing and new hypertrophic and keloids scars

2. as a prophylactic therapy on healed wounds to help to prevent hypertrophic scarring and keloids.

Directions for use

1. Clean and dry the scar and surrounding skin.

2. Open peel pack and lift out Cica-Care sheet with its release liner attached.

3. Cut a piece to cover the scar with a small overlap over the surrounding skin. For large scars, use several sheets side by side. To facilitate ease of removal, ensure that the piece includes the removal flap on the backing sheet.

4. Carefully peel off the release liner and apply the adhesive side to the scar without stretching.

5. Although self-adhesive, Cica-Care may also be held in place by a lightly elastic conforming bandage or tape. Care must be taken not to hold it too tightly against the scar as this can lead to irritation of the scar and surrounding area.

6. Keep the unused portion in the original container and store in a dry place.

7. Cica-Care should be applied at least 12 hours per day during the therapy time. If possible Cica-Care should be applied for 24 hours, allowing for washing periods.

8. For better skin acclimatisation, begin by applying Cica-Care for 4 hours per day for the first two days, 8 hours per day for the next two days and increase usage time by two hours per day until the optimal 24 hours per day therapy time is obtained.

When Cica-Care begins to deteriorate or cleaning is difficult, it should be replaced. This usually occurs at 14-28 day intervals. Shorter lifetime may be experienced if the scar is situated over a joint or in an area subject to constant abrasion. The total therapy time should be in the range of 2 to 4 months.

Contraindications

Do not use on patients with complicating medical factors which would make them unable to use the gel sheet properly.

Do not use on patients with dermatological conditions (e.g. Psoriasis & Acne).

Do not use on open wounds or where the skin integrity is compromised.

Use of Cica-Care is not recommended on young children unless used in combination with an appropriate secondary retention dressing.

Do not use ointments or creams under gel sheet as they may interfere with the performance of the product.

Special Notes

In some patients, a rash has been observed on the covered skin. This has been attributed to either poor hygiene or to the product being applied with pressure too tightly. Should a rash appear, reduce Cica-Care therapy time to 12 hours on 12 hours off. If the rash persists, discontinue use and consult your physician.

On surgical incisions, use Cica-Care only after sutures have been removed and the site is fully healed. Follow acclimatisation and washing procedures carefully.

Wash Cica-Care twice daily in a mild non-oily soap solution and rinse in clean warm water.

Pat dry and reapply to the dry cleansed scar. Avoid using detergent for cleansing as this may lead to skin irritation.

Avoid using paper products (eg. kitchen towels) to dry the Cica-Care sheet as it can adhere to the sheet.

In warm weather or during periods of physical activity where sweating may occur, Cica-Care should be cleansed more often for comfort and to maintain optimal contact between Cica-Care and the skin.

Ensure the scar and surrounding skin are clean and dry prior to application.
