What is iron?

Iron is an essential mineral that builds the hemoglobin in red blood cells and leads the oxygen to tissues.In addition, iron participates in processes of creating energy.

Iron is used as an integral part of enzymes and proteins associated with maintaining proper health of the body and it holds a vital role in controlling the growth and differentiation of cells. Studies have shown that iron deficiency is the first nutritional problem worldwide and that iron deficiency at early ages may cause permanent damage to the cognitive development and affect the function in adulthood.

There are two forms of iron in the food we are eating:

Heme iron - that comes from animal source and is found in foods such as red meat, poultry and fish.

Non-heme iron - that comes from plant source and is found in foods such as legumes, grains and green vegetables.

The Heme iron type is absorbed better in the body, but most of the iron that comes from our nutrition is a non-heme.

In addition, iron absorption is dependent on the composition of the meal. For example, the presence of vitamin C helps the absorption of non-heme iron. The presence of natural substances such as tannins (in tea), calcium, phytate and polyphenols may reduce the absorption of the non-heme iron.

What are the effects of iron deficiency on the body?

  • Limits the transfer of oxygen to body cells
  • Associated with feelings of fatigue and weakness
  • Related to a decrease in the immune system
  • May lead to iron deficiency anemia

Each jelly bear Yomi iron contains:

An iron from Iron fumarate 5 mg
Folic acid 50 mcg
Vitamin B12 1 mcg
Vitamin C 20 mg

Directions for use:

One or two jelly bears a day with meals.

Maximum consumption: 4 jelly bears per day.

Recommended to take with food or as a dessert after a meal

Amount of iron absorbed decreases as the dose of iron supplementation increases. Therefore, it is recommended to split the consumption of the supplement throughout the day.

Recommended for children aged 3 and up.
